English (Writing), Computer Skills, Social Stud... Tutor in Austin, TX

Tutor Profile

Gender:
Female

Preferred Subjects

English (Writing), Computer Skills, Social Studies, Study Skills/Organization, Psychology, Geography

Education

Sophomore Linguistics Major at the University of Texas at Austin, GPA: 3.6

Experience:

I spent years as a Girl Scout, and the the later of those, I had the opportunity to work with younger girl scouts (between 9 and 13): helping them earn badges, sell cookies, etc, and teaching them along the way. I loved doing it and it made me realize that I couldn't think of a better job in college than working with younger kids, especially in the business of imparting knowledge. It was incredibly rewarding.

In high school, I completed most of my English requirements by taking college courses. These honed my writing skills better than high school classes would have, being at a higher level. Likewise with American History. I also took AP European History and received a 4 on the test. Furthermore, my Linguistics courses at college have made me very aware of how people learn to communicate at all ages, and how they learn language.

I have a general GPA of 3.6 and a 4.0 in all English and Writing Component classes. I have no paid tutoring experience, but have spent large amounts of time helping peers and those younger than me with papers and other assignments. I'm working towards becoming a writing adviser at the University Writing Center.

My specialty is English, but I'm also very proficient in history, geography, social studies, and working with computers.

Hobbies:

I thoroughly enjoy cooking--it's my weekly labor at the Co-op I live in to cook dinner. I'm also the editor of the bi-weekly newsletter, The Taosian (usually also the author, when no one submits anything, haha). I paint a little bit and write creatively a little bit. I'm also interested in airplanes and would like to work on obtaining my private pilot's license someday when I have the money. I love to read literature, both classic and contemporary.

In high school I was a member of Business Professionals of America, French Club, and Aviation Club.

Hourly Rate:
$15.00/hr

Available Days/Times:
Weekdays in the afternoon
Weekdays in the evening
Weekends at any time

Lives Near:
78705 zip code

Click here to contact this tutor

My standardized test scores on the SAT, GRE, and LSAT were all top 1%, and I love helping people "crack the code" on these tests and make higher scores.
Algebra, Calculus, General Math, Pre-Calculus, ... Tutor in Austin, TX

Tutor Profile

Gender:
Male

Preferred Subjects

Algebra, Calculus, General Math, Pre-Calculus, French, Spanish,, Geometry, SAT Math, Chemistry

Education

I am a 2nd year with junior college credit status at The University of Texas at Austin. I am studying to receive a Bachelor's degree in Advertising with a Business Foundations certificate.

Experience:

I received a 620 in Math, 600 in Comprehension, and a 600 in Writing/Grammar on the SAT. I received a 610 on the SAT Math 1 Subject Test. I also received a 24 on the ACT exam, without the writing section. I received a 4 on the AP World History and AP Spanish exams.

I want to be a tutor because I feel that I can help others achieve their full potential. I recognize that these standardized tests and college/college-level classes are hard work, and that not everyone will be able to perform 100 percent without some help.

I have taken Math 408C, Chemistry 304K, and have placed out of Spanish 506/507/312K and French 506. I am enrolled in French 508K this upcoming school year, as well as taking Chemistry 305 this summer.

Mathematics has always been a strong point of mine. I did well in my Geometry/Algebra/Pre-Calculus classes in high school, as well as in high school chemistry.

Hobbies:

I like to read books that appeal to me. I love video games and am an avid Mario & Super Smash Brothers fan. I enjoy doing the typical things of a college student, most of all just being able to hang out with my friends and experience new and exciting things. Food is always amazing and I am very open-minded when it comes to eating. I absolutely LOVE UT-Austin. I support the Longhorns in as many sports as I can.

I currently have no car at this moment. I use the Capital Metro bus service to get around.

Hourly Rate:
$30.00/hr

Available Days/Times:
Weekdays after 1PM
Saturday in the afternoon
Sunday after 2PM

Lives Near:
78756 zip code

Click here to contact this tutor

I have 10 years of professional experience and I am an expert at organization and task management. I will not only help your child better understand the topic at hand, I will always teach the skills needed for independent learning and problem solving (which is great for building confidence!).

Experience:

I am a certified tutor through the Learning Skills Center at U.T. I tutored for several years at U.T. and I was a U.T. paid staff teaching assistant for general engineering calculus and general engineering physics (general engineering classes at U.T. are targeted to aide engineering students who need supplemental teaching to succeed in their core math/physics classes). I love tutoring because I enjoy the opportunity to explain to students how these courses apply to the real world and I love the opportunity to shift their perceptions about education what a wonderful experience it really is. Professionally, I have excellent task management skills that I can also share with your child. I have designed and executed global business processes for a Fortune 50 company and trained engineers on those processes in the U.S., Ireland, China, and Malaysia. I am a gifted communicator with a lot to share with your child! My website is www.cynthiacoffey.com.

Hobbies:

Personally, I enjoy writing, psychology, philosophy, photography and music. I have spent time volunteering with the Upward Bound Program, which seeks to motivate students in disadvantaged socio-economic situations to pursue college educations. I am truly fueled by sharing my gifts with children in a way that can improve their self-esteem and ultimately improve their lives.

Hourly Rate:
$50.00/hr

Available Days/Times:
Weekdays after 9AM
Saturday after 9AM

Lives Near:
78758 zip code

Click here to contact this tutor

Spanish, Biology, English (ESL) Tutor in Austin, TX

Tutor Profile

Gender:
Female

Preferred Subjects

Spanish, Biology, English (ESL)

Education

Graduated May 2009 with a B.S. in Nutrition at the University of Texas Austin. I have a strong background in Spanish and Biology.

Experience:

I have several years of tutoring children and high school students.

My SAT score was 1060.

I want to be a tutor because for me it was difficult to find help when I needed it the most. A teacher can only provide so much outside help, and so I wish that when I was struggling I had someone there to help me. I want to provide the students who want help the assistance they need.

I have taken 19 hours of Spanish and I am a fluent speaker, 16 hours of Biology, 14 hours of Chemistry, and 48 hours of Nutrition which has helped me maintain a strong science background.

I was president of the Nutrition and Wellness Association for 1 year and an active member for 3. Our primary goal was to educate the public, especially the youth about nutrition and the importance of staying active and healthy.

I was a also a Nutrition Peer Educator for 2 years. I provided and taught workshops geared towards a healthier lifestyle for the UT community, consulted students, analyzed diets, updated campus outreach information.

I worked at the Biological Sciences Storeroom at UT for 3 years. I was responsible for receiving orders, filing, inputting data, keeping a record of inventory items, accounting responsibilities, and maintenance of storeroom. I enjoyed this job because it provided me the opportunities to continually learn about equipment, supplies, biological chemicals, and products used in science labs.

Hobbies:

I enjoy trying new outdoor sports, running, playing basketball, volleyball, and have recently discovered Wii Sports. I love my dog Sushi. I enjoy cooking and trying new recipes. I love meeting new people and enjoy getting to know them. I try new things and experiences as much as I can.

Hourly Rate:
$40.00/hr

Available Days/Times:
Any day after 10AM

Lives Near:
78741 zip code

Click here to contact this tutor
