Some recent feedback from a parent: "David has been so incredibly helpful to our son. Since they started working together, his grades have improved tremendously, and he is gaining confidence with each lesson. David has also been accommodating, and very willing to work around our son's crazy schedule. David has been terrific, and we highly recommend him."
The wide range of teaching and learning experiences I have enable me to provide clear explanations of foundational skills as well as a sense of how it is applied. In a constructivist fashion, I seek to find ways for students to figure it out without me just revealing the answer. Ideally there is a balance between dismantling people's misconceptions and bad habits while building their self-esteem and problem solving ability. Students often need as much help with study skills and organization as they do with the content of their course. I have techniques and strategies for improving in this area. I am happy to communicate with your child's teacher to focus our lessons. We can arrange for any type of support or materials necessary to cater each session to you or your child's personal learning style and needs.
In a New York Times article (9/13/09), Harvard Education Professor Dede explains: “One-to-one tutoring is the learning method proven time and again to sharply improve a student’s measured performance. A good human tutor can deliver a “home run,” educationally and statistically.” I'm that guy...try me. I enjoy working with children and adults, and I will set you up to succeed!
HobbiesI have traveled through forty countries in Asia, Europe, Africa, North and Central America. I have played a classical Indian drum called "tabla" for 18 years. I am also a singer, guitar player, songwriter, and an avid collector of music of all genres.
I love to play sand volleyball, and I swim, trail run and practice yoga on a regular basis. I enjoy tennis, ping-pong, juggling, mountain biking, scuba diving, and skiing.

After being blessed with roughly three years of being under his tutelage, I can personally attest to David Marcus's proficiency as a tutor. David combines a thorough knowledge of mathematics with an engaging tutoring style in order to truly help me learn and understand my curriculum. As my math grades have improved dramatically with his aid over the years, I would recommend David to anyone wanting to enhance or reinforce their knowledge of mathematics.
David was an awesome tutor. Although it was his first time to tutor a student for TOEFL he did a great job. He quickly adapted and taught me all what I needed to improve my score. I significanlty boost my score after David helped me.
David was a wonderful tutor. He worked with my son in prep for the ISEE test and was able to give him some good strategies for taking the test as well as help make him more comfortable with the math areas of the exam. He was very flexible on time and was always punctual and professional.
David was a great tutor! Professional, on-time and extremely knowledgeable in math. He is a natural teacher and has a great way of breaking down math concepts. He helped me raise my score on the GRE.
