About

Member Since:June, 2009
Gender:Female
Preferred Subjects:English (Writing), Computer Skills, Social Studies, Study Skills/Organization, Psychology, Geography
Experience:I spent years as a Girl Scout, and the the later of those, I had the opportunity to work with younger girl scouts (between 9 and 13): helping them earn badges, sell cookies, etc, and teaching them along the way. I loved doing it and it made me realize that I couldn't think of a better job in college than working with younger kids, especially in the business of imparting knowledge. It was incredibly rewarding.

I also now lead a Daisy Girl Scout troop weekly, on Friday afternoons. It's a little sillier than when I worked with older girls, but still lots of fun.

In high school, I completed most of my English requirements by taking college courses. These honed my writing skills better than high school classes would have, being at a higher level. Likewise with American History. I also took AP European History and received a 4 on the test. Furthermore, my Linguistics courses at college have made me very aware of how people learn to communicate at all ages, and how they learn language.

I have a general GPA of 3.6 and a 4.0 in all English and Writing Component classes. I have no paid tutoring experience, but have spent large amounts of time helping peers and those younger than me with papers and other assignments.

I'm interning as a writing adviser at the University Writing Center, and will hopefully work there next year.

My specialty is English, but I'm also very proficient in history, geography, social studies, and working with computers.
Hobbies:I thoroughly enjoy cooking--it's my weekly labor at the Co-op I live in to cook dinner. I'm also the editor of the bi-weekly newsletter, The Taosian (usually also the author, when no one submits anything, haha). I paint a little bit and write creatively a little bit. I'm also interested in airplanes and would like to work on obtaining my private pilot's license someday when I have the money. I love to read literature, both classic and contemporary.

In high school I was a member of Business Professionals of America, French Club, and Aviation Club.
