About Travis
Member Since:December, 2012
Gender:Male
Preferred Subjects:Algebra, Calculus, Differential Equations, Geometry, Math, SAT Math, Pre-Calculus, Trigonometry, Statistics, Physics, ACT, SAT, GRE, MATLAB
Education:I received a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Texas in 2011 and my Master's Degree in Orbital Mechanics in 2013. I am currently pursuing a Ph.D in Computational Science, Engineering, and Mathematics.
Experience:My name is Travis and I am a graduate student in Computational Science, Engineering and Math at UT Austin. As an undergraduate engineering student, I performed very well in all my physics, calculus, differential equations, and statistics courses. As a tutor, I embrace the challenge of meeting each new student where they are and taking them to the next level of understanding. In addition to any mathematics discipline, I tutor physics and computer programming (especially MATLAB). I am excited to start working with you! Please feel free to text, or email me anytime.

-----------------------------------------------------------
Experience:

I was an undergraduate tutor at the engineering study tables in Calculus, Physics I and II, and Differential Equations. Also, I've been a teaching assistant in the Aerospace Engineering department at UT for 3 semesters. In addition, I have experience tutoring elementary and high-school students.

-----------------------------------------------------------
Relevant scores:

800 SAT math
800 GRE math
3.9/4.0 GPA in Aerospace Engineering

-----------------------------------------------------------
What to expect:

Expect a dedicated tutor who will ensure your success in whatever subject you're trying to conquer. In addition, I see each tutoring session as an opportunity to not only improve knowledge of the particular subject at hand but also to improve study habits, enhance independent learning skills, and mitigate test anxieties. By doing so, my students gain self-confidence they can carry with them to other academic disciplines.

Expect me to ask you for some problems and/or topics you would like to cover before each tutoring session. This allows me to prepare for each meeting appropriately so that our time together is as cost-effective and productive for the student as possible.

I also offer discounts for multi-student tutoring.
Hobbies:I love running and cycling, and I enjoy playing guitar, singing, and songwriting. On the weekends I try to catch some of the live music shows throughout Austin.

Travis is an excellent tutor in every way. He is responsive, prompt and terrifically smart. He communicates in a calm and effective manner that boosts confidence and gets the job done easily. Our “all-A” 9th grader was struggling with pre-AP Geometry, which we now know stems from poor instruction: a session with Travis “solves the problem” each time. Highly skilled, personable and dedicated – we wish he taught at our high school!

I reached out to Travis at the very end of the semester when we decided that my son needed help studying for his high school Algebra II final. Travis came through for us! He promptly scheduled two review sessions (as he was finishing his own finals), was right on time, and explained what my son had been missing in a way that he could understand. Travis is very personable and clearly very adept in helping students understand math concepts. We would call on him again in a heartbeat!

Travis is a great tutor! He is incredibly patient and kind and always makes sure you understand the subject completely. I highly recommend him as a math tutor; his teaching methods took my math anxiety away and helped me address my major weaknesses prior to taking the GRE. He is also really great at explaining combinatorics!
