ExperienceThe author of two forthcoming books (LITERARY WITCHES, Seal Press 2017, and ASK BABA YAGA, Andrews McMeel 2017) and numerous publications, I am a working writer, teacher, and editor who has recently earned an MFA from the prestigious Michener Center for Writers in Austin.
My four years of experience teaching creative writing to adults include over 10 workshops, lectures, and literature seminars of original curriculum. I have also crafted several specialized courses for students who want to work one-on-one, whether to develop a special project (such as a memoir, a novel, or book of poems) or receive regular feedback as they explore a genre.
I have also taught four years of creative writing summer camp for middle and high school students. Through the popular The Adroit Journal Summer Mentorship Program, I worked with two promising high school poets remotely to nourish creativity, give feedback to weekly poems, assign and discuss readings, and act as resource for all poetry-related thoughts and interests.
I have one year of formal professional tutor training and tutoring experience at the Huntington Learning Center, where I guided elementary, middle school, high school, and community college students through help with homework, essay writing, study skills, ACT/SAT test preparation, and college entrance essays. My own GRE Verbal Reasoning score was in the 99th percentile.
As a freelance editor, I copyedit and proofread manuscripts for publication, edit a range of texts, from scholarly articles and volumes to essays and literature, design and execute layout based on client needs, and design graphics.
HobbiesBeyond writing, which is my chief profession and the focus of my pursuits, I love reading, crafting, the outdoors, and cooking.
I love working with all kinds of minds and imaginations, and my enthusiastic, curious, and warm personality helps me get along with all ages and types of students—those in need of extra help and the particularly ambitious alike.
