Experience

All my life, I have loved to read. There is nothing I enjoy more than passing a love of reading on to others. I particularly like to encourage young people to read, as there are so many things that someone who is proficient in reading can do. A reader can travel the world through the words of another. A reader can meet amazing people, both living and dead. A reader can learn new and amazing things. By simply opening a book, a reader can have the world at their fingertips.I have been a writer and a teacher in the past, so I draw on that experience to help my students become proficient readers. I have worked for 17 years editing the TAAS and STAAR tests, specializing in writing, language arts, and composition. With that experience in mind, I can give students a unique perspective and different strategies on how to be successful in taking these types of tests. I also tutor literature, grammar and mechanics, editing, and students taking IB Extended Essay. I believe that in order to be a successful teacher, you have to find ways to make the learning fun for students, so I focus on that aspect in all of my teaching endeavors. In my spare time, I enjoy running and traveling.
