Education

University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill - BA, Anthropology, Minor Geology. Worked as a professional archaeologist in both US and Europe. Further studies include computer science and biology. Additionally, I self teach by reading a wide variety of subjects.

Experience

Graduate work in Archaeology. 18 years in IT in many different roles. Current Biology major. Professional photographer. Writer/poet/artist. USA Archery Level 1 Instructor. Taught high school classes in Biology, Chemistry, and Technology. Spent additional time tutoring students to help them be more successful. Coached students on how to properly take tests, but not teaching to the test. I always told them they had to learn the material but there are better ways to approach how you answer questions. Teaching is something I love. I find that everyone has the potential to do great things but often they just don't have the right person to teach them in the way they learn. My initial evaluation involves getting a feel for how I think they will learn and what methods might be best suited for the student. Patience is always important! I am also a long time volunteer with numerous organizations including over 500 hours with the American Red Cross. People should always come first. Education is just another way to do that.

Hobbies

I am a diverse person with extensive experience in science and the arts allowing me to connect with people of many different backgrounds. Archery and rowing, great ways to learn discipline and focus, are two things I enjoy. I am a firm believer in encouraging more minorities, girls, and women to pursue science as we always need diverse opinions and experiences. Having always been the "geek" in school, I understand what it is like in school when you don't necessarily "belong." Encouraging students to recognize this is temporary is a great way to make sure they don't check out from their education. Reading is highly important to me as a part of self study. I always have stacks of books at the ready to start consuming. I love reading up on Native American history, culture, and experiences. Currently I am looking to learn more about the law as I consider if that would be another profession I might wish to pursue. For me though, it has never been about money. It is about doing something you enjoy while hopefully getting paid enough to be happy with everything else. Life is too short to have regrets.
