Hobbies

I look forward to working with you! I have a bachelors degree from UC Berkeley in philosophy and am currently attending Columbia University, through an online program while residing here in Austin, working on my masters degree in social work. I have a vast and very unique experience working with kids of all ages and demographics. I started my career working with children and adults in a day program for various developmental disabilities. I have also worked with high-risk students at all developmental levels in after school programs and ages as well as one-on-one private tutoring in homes. I currently do in-person and online tutoring through Varsity Tutors and work with k-12 students in an emergency shelter, getting their performance level up to current age expectations. I take a holistic approach with my tutoring and individualize my strategy for each new student and their families. No child or young adult learns the same and everyone comes from a unique family setting and background. I take this into consideration when working with each new student and work alongside the student and their family (when appropriate) to personalize a learning plan tailored for not only academic success but for personal growth and development. I use a strengths-based focus in my tutoring, as I firmly believe focusing on what we are good at and how that can influence areas we are not as naturally adept in, is far more successful than approaching a tutoring session with a negative weakness-based assessment. We are far more capable of achieving our goals when we believe in ourselves and sometimes it just takes another individual to help enable our success. As a tutor, I am not here to do the work for anyone, but to enable and give tools for completing challenges independently! I love working on anything from basic reading skills and comprehension all the way up to complicated university level research papers. I am most adept at writing research, philosophical arguments, and APA formatted papers. I love editing and am happy to teach editing/formatting/outlining skills to anyone needing a little extra organization in order to right more quickly and efficiently. As long as you don't ask me to solve complicated statistics formulas or do organic chemistry equations, I am ready to tackle your tutoring needs!
