Experience

Today more than ever with school districts cutting teachers, programs and facilities because of serious budget shortfalls, you the parent need to arm yourself with the right help to bolster your Childs learning and propel them on the path of academic success and strengthened personal self esteem, because if you don't do it, no one else will. I am here to help in your student's success. It's not just about a degree but the entire realm of experiences and interests including the education that helps to define a person. I am a knowledgeable well rounded individual that believes in the basics with tried and true methods to improve learning. Like the accomplished athlete, and successful musician, focused practice, good methodology, understanding and persistence pays off. My education includes both a BS degree from Michigan State University in Crops and Soils Science, and a BA degree From SUNY New Paltz, NY in Geology, where I graduated with honors. As such, I hold an extensive knowledge base regarding both agricultural, natural resource, environmental, and geologic issues as they pertain to development, remediation and broader environmental issues as a whole. My Horticultural/Agricultural work experience includes soils management/fertilization/ irrigation/erosion control. Additionally plant experience involves turf grass management/planting/pest control/grooming, as well as bedding plant annuals/perennials planting seeding transplanting fertilizing and pest control. Tree and shrub management as well as landscaping, greenhouse management, sales and service to retail consumers. Soils and plant species management provided to the general public through the soils and water conservation board. My Environmental work experience includes report work on solid waste management plans for county clients. Responsibilities included extensive report writing, information research and gathering of public domain records, map research, along with siteing assessments for related waste management facilities, and waste stream categorization assessment studies. Additionally, I performed extensive transaction screen surveys, radon gas tests for residential and commercial structures utilizing both passive and electronic monitors for relocation clients and realty concerns throughout the tri-state area. For these clients as well, extensive water and soils sampling of properties relating to underground tank storage issues were performed. My work here extensively utilized various mapping resources including soils surveys, vegetation maps, geologic groundwater, bedrock, and unconsolidated sediments maps, geologic fence diagrams, as well as topographic maps, and both aerial and satellite photography for various projects. For several years, I taught the sciences in the New York City Public High School System under the “New York Teaching Fellows” program. Here I taught earth science, environmental science, and biology to high school students in both Theodore Roosevelt High School, and Christopher Columbus High school in the Bronx. My Geotechnical work includes extensive vibration monitoring and consultation related to quarry/construction blasting, pile driving and rock hammering activities at construction sites in both rural, suburban and urban settings ranging throughout the tri-state area including extensive work in New York City with large scale construction sites and projects involving both MTA and FAA hard assets. Related to these activities, preconstruction and damage claim surveys were performed as well, including participation in numerous construction site meetings to provide reconnaissance and consultation related to vibration monitoring and inspection needs of the client and activity coordination. Extensive project analysis report writing and project proposal report writing performed on projects within the tri-state area. Additional geotechnical work includes both surface and subsurface investigations, within the state of Connecticut and Massachusetts, involving big-box retail pad-site development and communication tower base-site development. I have performed extensive split spoon sampling for surface/subsurface soils identification and logging, in addition as well to rock core sampling, identification, and rock competency determination for these above described sites. Related to the tower pad sites, field resistivity was also performed. In a number of cases, field percolation tests were performed at proposed residential development sites. Additional responsibilities include project results and proposal report writing for many of these field activities. I was instrumental in coordination with partnering project drilling subcontractors on these projects and for other information management issues related to the same projects. I frequently utilize various mapping resources; including soils surveys, vegetation maps, geologic groundwater, bedrock, and unconsolidated sediments maps, various fence diagrams, as well as topographic maps, and both aerial and satellite photography for various projects. In Connecticut and Massachusetts, construction site monitoring also was performed at various small retail projects pertaining to field concrete testing, footings rebar placement, and general construction practices monitoring along with associated report writing. As you can see, I have a broad range of educational insight and understanding of the application of science in real world situations. All of this makes me more effective in teaching and tutoring.
