Experience
Two years ago, I moved back to Austin after having been gone for 28 years. During that time, I had the privilege of living in several states within the "Lower 48," and most recently, overseas in Hong Kong. The adventures I have had and the experiences with various people and cultures has given me a broader perspective on education and its possibilities. What I have also learned is that students, whether in the United States or overseas, all have similar needs. I have considered it a privilege to be able to teach and to have worked with some exceptional young people. Resume... I was a middle and high school teacher in Los Angeles, California in two of the top prep schools in that area. I was also a private tutor for eight years in Los Angeles. I am very comfortable teaching almost every subject on the elementary level, with the exception of Science and Spanish. My expertise lies in teaching Reading, ESL and organizational skills. On the middle and high school levels, I am most comfortable teaching Language Arts, Writing skills, and again, organizational skills. I have found that organization is probably the biggest component in having a successful school experience. If students know how to plan and manage their time, they feel less stress and tend to be much more successful in school. With the expectations placed on students today, and with their "free" time being so very limited, organizational skills are something that they all need to master.
