Private tutor in Austin, TX
Education
Earning a Masters degree in Social Work at UT BA with Honors in Anthropology and Women's Studies from Rice University, class of 2012
Experience
I love to help students understand their homework, rather than just helping them answer test questions. I have found that many teachers (my own included) just teach the student how to do the individual problems, rather than teaching the concept behind them. This frustrates me because I know that it is not the best way to learn, though it may be the easiest to teach. I prefer to help the student understand the concepts so that they can figure out how to complete the problems on their own. I have tutored for over 5 years in Houston and Austin with incredibly positive results. I prefer to work with students on a weekly basis, rather than trying to "cram" before a test, because it improves performance and it helps the student reduce stress and feel more in-control of their schoolwork on a daily basis. All of my students have loved working with me and have improved markedly in their classes, so much so that their parents have asked me to return each year to tutor them in other subjects, and to help their siblings. GRE scores: Math - 160/170 English - 163/170 Essay - 5.5/6 SAT scores: Math - 740, Reading - 730, Writing - 730 AP test scores: Spanish - 5 Chemistry - 5 Physics Mechanics - 5 Physics Electromagnetism - 4 BC Calculus - 4 English Language - 4
