With my degree there are many avenues open to me. However, I find very few as stimulating as helping students improve their skills in English composition. Most students have never been given the real attention needed to strengthen such a vital asset. ELA Tutor With Ameri-Corps (2013-Current) -Established the Reagan High School Writing Lab. Located within the school library, The Writing Lab was a hub for students who needed help with any kind of writing. Whether it be for the Staar Test, College Essays, or just the normal classwork, students would arrive in the Writing Lab and receive one-on-one help and tutoring. ELA Teacher/Substitute AISD (2013-Current) -Worked at several schools across Austin, including a long term position at the LBJ Magnet Academy. Grew standing report with several recurring classrooms and developed strong professional ties with staff at each location. Essay Tutor at Austin College (2008-2011) -Helped fellow students forge, utilize, and maintain a palpable hand at essay composition. Adeptness in students ranged from seasoned writers who were simply rusty to students who had never written more than three pages in their life. Each student was approached in the same thoughtful and engaged manner along with the thinking that every student has the profound ability of conveying intelligent, academic, and at times personal thoughts through the essay form.
