Hello! I'm Lanie, teacher and tutor of liberal arts subjects, with particular expertise in writing, reading, listening and speaking the English language. iTambien soy fluida en Español y disfruto ayudar y traducir para mis estudiantes Latinos! I have extensive experience in both classroom teaching and tutoring 1:1 and small groups. I currently am employed as an adjunct professor at Austin Community College (ACC Highland) teaching academic ESOL. I've also been trained and employed by The Princeton Review and Kaplan as a test prep teacher and tutor. Both the main ESL university entrance tests, TOEFL and IELTS, are my main area of test expertise. I also am trained in the techniques and approaches for other undergrad and postgrad entrance exams exams such as SAT, ACT, GRE, GMAT, LSAT, as well as the U.K. exams such as IELTS and various IGCSE exams. I enjoy teaching very much, and would like to continue on my path as a tutor and educator because I believe education forms the foundation of our lives in many ways. Also, I feel confident and equipped to deliver these services. Both my BA and MA have focused on accuracy of language (including formatting, quoting, MLA style etc.) I have spent many years working not only with the students themselves, but also with the parents/families of them, the schools/colleges they attend, other tutors/teachers in liaison that work in tandem, and third-party representatives such as agents and contractors for whom I've provided language or academic management services. I look forward to working with you, your child or family member, or your company - referrals are graciously discounted!

I am a huge nature enthusiast and am a certified rescue (scuba) diver. I also am certified to teach swimming and worked as a lifeguard for many summers. I also enjoy above-land sports/nature such as hiking, rafting, and surfing. Keeping up with current events is important to me as well; I enjoy reading and viewing global news. International travel is also a major hobby of mine; I have visited 36 countries and have lived and worked in 5 of them! It has been amazing and has made me a better teacher overall too. Additionally, I'm passionate about foreign food, music, and culure! I work with a wide range of age groups, but my definitive specialty is college/university entrance preparation (ages 15-18) as well as ESL for all ages and levels (beginner to advanced.) As an editor, I can help you with accurate paper-formatting and referencing/bibliography skills. Many papers and dissertations are declined due to technical errors, and I guarantee that does not happen to my clientele! I also have taught public speaking workshops focusing on the use of Power Point/audiovisual resources, speech aspects such as accent, pace, tone, and volume/pitch, and body language or nervousness ("stage fright" - we all get it sometimes! I look forward to hearing from you. Best wishes for your linguistic pursuits!
