Private tutor in Austin, TX
Education
Bard College at Simon's Rock Bachelor's Degree-Sociology GPA-3.8
Experience
Though only 23, I have 7 years direct experience working in educational, human services environments. I tutored my peers in English, Writing, and Social Sciences throughout high school. Starting my sophomore year of college, I was hired to tutor 4 different Humanities courses, all specifically related to history and sociology. I have spent the past year working as an early education teacher at two different private schools, and I will be beginning a year-long term as an AmeriCorps member this Winter. I will be tutoring adults and children with below average reading levels in an attempt to improve the literacy rate in my city and improve these individuals' access to job readiness and resources in the future. Providing service to others through teaching is my passion and I intend to pursue it as a career.

Hobbies
I grew up in the midwest, splitting my time between Missouri, Kansas, and Nebraska. Though committed to my studies, I also developed a number of other hobbies to keep me stimulated, including playing the trumpet, singing in a number of a capella groups (including a Barbershop quartet!), participating in competitive fishing tournaments, hiking, and many others. What consumes the most of my time is my commitment to social justice and education among disadvantaged populations. My major in college, through the application of sociological principles, is called Social Action/Social Change. I was lucky enough to spend my last two years of college creating a program that is tailored to my specific desire to use education as a tool for improving others' chances of accessing resources and improving their social mobility. I have many, many years of experience tutoring people in a variety of subjects, and my approach is grounded in patiently helping tutees find solutions to their questions.
