Experience
I earned a doctorate in history from Rice University in 2007 and currently teach that subject, as well as English composition, at two universities: Texas State, located in San Marcos, and Incarnate Word, located in San Antonio. I presently reside in Austin, close to my family. My previous teaching post, from 2007 to 2013, was at the University of Oklahoma's Expository Writing Program and the Honors College. The head of the department there gave me the top ranking of any professor in that program, ever, in my evaluation. Before I started teaching at the university level, I tutored privately in all subjects. I also worked at two agencies in Austin, where I focused on English and test prep. I have also worked in Houston for two different companies as a reading consultant, and in Paris teaching ESL (I'm fluent in French). My specialty is helping high school and college students gain acceptance into their chosen programs or schools, and helping them excel in their classes once they're accepted. I cover every phase of the admission process, from preparing for the standardized exams (TOEFL, GRE, SAT, LSAT) to writing the personal essay to getting ready for the personal interview. I'm comfortable tutoring any subject except for advanced science and math. In my spare time I enjoy music, independent film, drumming (punk and rock), and revolution.
