I graduated from Abilene Christian University with a B.A. in History. I minored in English, and I have edited professionally. My particular areas of expertise include English composition and grammar, English literature, essay writing, the social sciences (including history and geography), and religious studies. I am prepared to tutor AP students in AP English Language and Composition, AP English Literature and Composition, AP European History, AP U.S. Government & Politics and AP Human Geography. I am also prepared to work with students studying for standardized tests, particularly the SAT Verbal and Critical Reading exams, or to assist students with essays, including tutoring students in English grammar and mechanics, and revision. My pedagogical style emphasizes critical thinking, technique, and subject mastery, rather than rote memorization. I believe that a student who successfully learns to research and problem solve will thrive in future endeavors, having gained skills that apply to learning anything. My goals as a tutor include encouraging students to enjoy learning as well as mastering the subject at hand. I plan to study the American Gilded Age in graduate school. In my spare time, I read, write short stories, and I play and design tabletop games.
