Private tutor in Austin, TX
Columbia University in the City of New York - BA, English/History
I believe that guiding students through open-ended questions is the best way to help them develop critical thinking skills and to be able to take control over their education. I have noticed the success my students have found through this method and will continue to apply it in my sessions. I feel that students are more interested in their education when it is in their hands, rather than when information is lectured or when students are simply required to memorize facts. During my undergraduate study, I worked with students in Morningside Heights and Harlem as they prepared for the SAT. I also worked with students to improve their English essays and in their History studies as well. I hold a B.A. degree in History and English from Columbia University. I have taught in Chicago through the Teach for America program after completing my degree. While I was teaching in Chicago, I was able to earn a Professional Educator's License in Language Arts education. I am a competent tutor in standardized test preparation, the SAT and ACT. I find my passion is in History, Literature, and Writing, because these subjects allow a student to inquire and develop their critical thinking to help them in both academics and in their future careers. Currently, I am applying to graduate school for a PhD in History.
