Private tutor in Austin, TX
University of Southern Mississippi - BS, Biology and Chemistry , University of Southern Mississippi - MS, Biochemistry
I graduated summa cum laude from the University of Southern Mississippi with degrees in Chemistry & Biology, then went on to complete a master's degree in Biochemistry. Currently, I am working toward a BS/MS in Computer Science at University of Texas (Austin). I am working on bringing together my long-time love for computer programming with my knowledge of sciences, possibly in developing scientific software and/or tools to increase the accessibility of science for lay people. I started tutoring in 2009, when I was a teaching assistant in both biology and chemistry. I have also tutored on a freelance basis for years, particularly biochemistry. My preferred subjects to teach are mathematics, chemistry, biology, and English. No matter what the subject, I believe the key role of the teacher is to show students the joy of learning. The process of learning is the same across disciplines, and so making the investment in mastering any subject assists in mastering others. My approach to tutoring focuses on connecting the abstract with real-world applications to assist with clarity and recognition of the importance of the concepts.
