I am a tutor in Austin, Texas. I have extensive tutoring experience in diverse subjects, including algebra 1-3, grammar and mechanics, reading, writing, essay editing, phonics, elementary and middle school math, American history, and test prep. Although I can effectively tutor these various subjects, I am very drawn to tutoring math topics at the elementary and middle school level. I have experience helping students prepare for standardized exams, including STAAR grade 3-8, PSAT, SAT subject tests, ISEE, and SSAT-middle level. I feel that education is very important for the improvement of one's quality of life, and I always try to convey this message to my students. I earned by BA degree in American literature from the University of California-Los Angeles. My field of study was post-modern literature. After graduation, I began teaching in New Orleans, where I worked in an underprivileged urban setting. My teaching duties entailed working with students who were in second through fourth grades. Although I could teach students in a variety of different subjects, math was the main area that I taught. Presently, I hold the position of math specialist-interventionist in a charter school located in Austin. In my leisure time, I like to read and play a variety of sports like soccer and basketball. I am also learning to play the guitar.
