Prior to becoming a tutor, I earned a B.A., studying both English lit and environmental sciences at Duke University, and an M.A. in Social Work from the University of Chicago. This broad education has helped me to tutor in a variety of different subjects, such as reading, writing, grammar, literature, history, psychology, social work, and social sciences. I have a great deal of teaching experience, starting with my time working with school children in Taiwan. I have also have experience tutoring students around the world, working with college and university students on the island of Madagascar, middle and elementary students in Taiwan, and students between the ages of 12 and 18 in the United States. I take an individualized approach to teaching, as I believe that all students are different and, therefore, require different levels of attention. I enjoy seeing students get results, particularly in reading and writing, because of what they have learned from me. I tell my students that it is perfectly fine to take some risks and that being wrong isn't the end of the world, as they are more likely to learn from this approach. When I'm not teaching, I enjoy fishing, traveling, listening to music, reading, writing, and playing basketball.
