Education

LBJ High School - I graduated with Science Academy Endorsement in 1998. 2 years as a music major at The University of Oklahoma. Texas State University-San Marcos - BA, Mass Communications Minor: Womens Studies

Experience

I graduated from what was known as the Science Academy at LBJ High School, a local magnet school. (Now it's called LASA, otherwise known as the Liberal Arts and Science Academy.) One summer while I was in high school I tutored with my Dad, who is a math teacher. I was too young to be on the official payroll, so my Dad paid me out of his pocket. It was an Algebra 1 class for students who had failed it the first time. I enjoyed it. I also tutored elementary students off and on during my junior and senior years to get volunteer hours for National Honor Society. I was very active in band, marching bass drum for two years and snare drum for two years. I love the marimba. I even majored in music for a while. I helped my brother-in-law's brother prepare for high school drumline tryouts last year. After I got my degree in journalism, I worked at a couple of different newspapers in Florida as a reporter before I came home. I did some copy editing here and there while I was a reporter. I'm well versed in AP style, although I can work with other styles. Recently, I have been teaching knitting and crochet at a local craft store, along with some kids craft classes. I've gotten positive feedback from my students. I have "regulars" in of all ages, including the ladies I volunteer to teach at a local retirement community. (One of the ladies always says I have "the patience of Job.") Most of the classes I teach are for beginners, so I'm no stranger to frustration. I don't mind it, because I know victory is around the corner!

Hobbies

Knitting, crocheting and crafting are obvious answers. I volunteer with the rabbits at the Austin Animal Center although I don't have as much time to do that as I used to. Because of my knitting and crochet classes, my schedule varies a lot. I have to turn it in a month ahead of time. So the availability on my profile isn't completely accurate. Message me. I'll make time for you.
