I now work as a middle school teacher and have over 20 years of working experience. I have a bachelor's in English and Secondary Education. I began my teaching career as a 6th grade reading teacher. Throughout the years, I have helped students learn ESL, Reading, Language Arts, and Journalism and I've worked with students in the 6th and 8th grade levels. I have spent a lot of time working with English Language learners and those who struggle to read. I like to work with small groups of students so that I can switch up my lessons to meet the needs of each student. I like to talk about interests that are relevant to my students in order to hold interest. I have been able to develop many strategies that help me in the classroom. I also have used a variety of materials to be successful. I like to break down difficult topics into manageable pieces of information. I do this with the writing process as well as reading. This helps to keep students focused and makes things less overwhelming. I would love to work with students on a one-on-one basis. When a student finally understands a difficult concept after working with me, I am truly happy!
