Experience
I have a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and am a candidate at Texas State University for a master's degree in Counseling. At the University of Texas, I did coursework in Public Affairs as well. In various after school programs, I have acted as a tutor. I find individual instruction is an effective method for really becoming familiar with the academic strengths and weaknesses of a student. Not all students are the same when it comes to retaining information, and different approaches have to be taken by educators in order to ensure that each person will be a success.I figure out the areas of trouble and then start there with a plan of action. I incorporate activities into my lessons, so that there is a greater chance of absorbing the material. Obviously, grades are very important in any academic setting. So, in an effort to improve those scores, I facilitate an open relationship with all students and encourage questions from them. I want those I instruct to feel comfortable enough to go back to class and apply what they have learned on their own. I, being an up-and-coming counselor, will do my best to be a source of motivation and confidence.
