My goal as a tutor is to create an individualized learning environment where students work towards mastering their courses and building self-confidence in learning. My experiences as both student and teacher have taught me that every student learns at different rates and by different styles. I have discovered a heavy focus on communication, critical thinking and structure in the learning environment plays a large role in the cognitive development and long-term knowledge retention of the student. Communication is an important part of my role as a tutor, and my students can expect clear and in-depth lessons, as well as prompt replies to questions. To be the most effective tutor I can be, I work to understand the individual challenges and goals of each student and tailor lessons to their personal needs. My philosophy in teaching is to provide a structured approach to problem-solving as a means to ensure they leave armed with the tools that will allow them to utilize their knowledge and to execute tasks within their mastery of the subject. Whether a student is writing a college essay or completing a complex equation, I believe that emphasizing a structured and logical approach increases the speed and ability with which they can accomplish the task. Often, critical thinking is left out of traditional classrooms. I work to stress why facts or concepts are important, and to teach a thorough understanding of the material.
