Experience
I believe that any topic can be made interesting if it is related to something you already enjoy. This leads me to take an interdisciplinary approach to education. Tell me a topic you enjoy and one you despise, and I will work out a way to connect them! At NYU I concentrated on Storytelling Conventions. This program allowed me to study how and why storytelling is present in our lives, how stories are influenced by life, and how stories influence life in return. I have taken a variety of courses in literature, history, philosophy, creative writing, and even a class focused on Evil! As a Fellow at the Newington-Cropsey Foundation I had the opportunity to engage directly in the study of history. My primary field of research was the relationship between Greco-Roman mythology and political philosophy during the American Civil War. My writing on ocular symbolism and identity earned the Italian Studies Scholarship, which allowed me to travel to Tuscany and participate in a study of didactic art. While in Italy I was given the opportunity to present on the theme of contrapasso in Dante's Inferno while at Dante's actual home! I also travelled to Spain to participate in a study of religion in Andalusia during the Middle Ages. I obtained a perfect score on the Verbal segment of the SAT, and scored in the 95th percentile of the GRE Verbal segment.
