Experience

I have recently returned to Austin after being in Ecuador teaching English for one year and hoping to continue doing what I love doing! I absolutely loved the one-on-one interactions I had with my students in the classroom and discovered that I thrive in smaller group settings, or with only one student. I am TEFL certified and have extensive experience working with people of different languages, nationalities, backgrounds. Before going to Ecuador, I worked at a refugee center teaching English to very low level adults of various languages and found great joy in that. I also did a lot of tutoring for high school aged students when I was in University. One summer, I made my way to Cape Town, South Africa to complete an internship at a children's home. Every day was a new and interesting task that involved leading groups of children to do various activities. Much of this day-to-day experience involved giving basic English lessons to the kids in fun and interactive ways. This experience shaped the way I viewed the world and gave me the motivation to pursue a career working with and teaching people from different backgrounds in order to bridge gaps and give others the opportunity to experience life abroad. I found teaching English as a foreign language did just that! Many of my students in the past have studied English so that they can work or study in a different country and I was thrilled to help them achieve that goal. I have a basic, conversational understanding of the Spanish language which can sometimes be very helpful for low-level English language learners who are native Spanish speakers. Additionally, I have collected many materials, grammar books, and lesson plans over the past couple years that I believe to be effective and engaging tools when learning a new language. As a Spanish student myself and having been abroad many times, I personally understand how difficult, and sometimes intimidating, it can be to learn a new language. I promise to make each lesson a relaxed and safe environment to perfect your English language skills! Although TEFL is my specialty, I also have experience and love to teach in the field of social studies and literature. I am an excellent writer and can help with any type of academic essays and papers.

Hobbies

I am back in Austin which means I am excited to get back outside and enjoy the wonderful outdoors of Texas. I love to be active-biking, running, swimming, yoga, hiking! I live with my sister and we enjoy doing these things together as well as eating all of the amazing food that Austin has to offer. In my downtime, I enjoy reading a good book, taking photos and sometimes (try) drawing!
