Education
Current PhD student at the University of Texas at Austin studying Computational Science Engineering and Mathematics. I am a second year student as of January 2017, I expect to graduate from the program in 2021. My research involves massively parallel algorithms for optimization and atmospheric fluid dynamics. Prior to UT I got degrees in Mathematics and Engineering Mechanics at the University of Wisconsin - Madison with 3.8 and 3.55 major GPAs respectively. I held various research positions at UW both in math and in Engineering Mechanics. I was also a course assistant for an advanced mechanics of materials course, where I graded assignments for both graduate students and undergraduates as an undergrad.
Experience
I have extensive experience tutoring both at the high school level and at the collegiate level - both undergrad and grad students. At UW Madison I was a head tutor at the College of Engineering's Undergraduate Learning Center. I tutored individually and in groups for various math, physics, engineering and computer science classes with consistently high marks. I was also an advisor for incoming freshmen and transfer students in Engineering at UW, and have a lot of experience working with students from all walks of life. I am the son of two teachers and enjoy teaching, both with students that need extra remedial help and gifted students that want to learn beyond their grade level. I hope ultimately to be a University professor, both to work on my research and to inspire young minds. I am the recipient of the CSEM Fellowship at UT Austin. While at UW-Madison I received the National Science Foundation's REU scholarship. I have taken extensive amounts of courses in engineering, mathematics, physics and computer science. Further I took a substantial amount of elective courses in philosophy, sociology, and am passionate about and well versed in liberal arts as well as STEM. In my engineering work in undergrad, I personally designed novel technology for a fuel cell powered electric 4 seat plane as part of a NASA competition (I designed the entire power plant for the plane). I also designed a magnetic induction coffee roaster.
