Experience
I began tutoring my junior year of high school (six years ago) when I was recommended by my math teacher to help younger students prepare for STAR testing in algebra and geometry. That same year I started tutoring elementary school students who were falling behind in reading and/or math. Through both of those volunteer positions, I discovered my love for tutoring and helping students understand topics that were initially so challenging. I loved the moments when students' eyes would light up with understanding and the celebrations over significant improvements in grades. Since that first year, I have continued tutoring in numerous subjects and environments. In college, I was hired by my school to tutor fellow students in biology and chemistry and I received a College Reading and Learning Association Certification. In addition, I continued independently tutoring high school math and volunteered to work on reading with elementary school students.
